The Centre for China-Europe/EU Law Studies, originated from the Research Center of European Law founded by the China University of Political Science and Law in 2002, was established in June 2015. The aim of the Centre is to enhance the teaching and research of the EU law within China, to promote the exchange, communication, cooperation in the EU law scholarship field in China and Europe, and in particular to train senior specialists in the European integration and the EU law. The Centre is comprised mainly of the full-time academics of the College of Comparative Law whose specialisation is the EU law as well as distinguished adjunct professors from overseas. The Centre has offered courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students on Introduction of EU Law, Special Topics of EU Policies and Law, Theories and Methodologies of the Integration of European Law, EU Company Law, EU Contract Law, EU Data Protection Law and Practice, and EU Trade and Economic Law, etc. In recent years, the scholars have chaired or participated in about 20 vertical, horizontal and international cooperative projects organized by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice and the Beijing Federation of Social Science Circles. It is particularly worthwhile to mention that, during July 2006 to October 2007, it successfully completed a large cross-disciplinary and comprehensive research project sponsored by the EU, the EU-China European Studies Centres Programme between China and the EU, jointly with the University of Freiburg and the University of Münster of Germany, which further opened up the space and channels of international cooperation and laid down a solid foundation for its sustainable development. From July 2011 to August 2014, the Centre implemented the EU 'Jean Monnet Project (European Module)' in cooperation with the University of Münster and the University of Augsburg. In July 2015 and July 2020, the Centre successfully applied for the Jean Monnet Chair Programme, and Prof. Zhang Tong was awarded the honor of the Jean Monnet Chair.
After years of development, the Centre has made great achievements and gained advantages in the construction of European law disciplines and international cooperation, especially in the opening of EU law courses, the publication of research results and the application of EU projects.
