Celebrating 10th anniversary of the College: Rolf Hermann Stürner gives a lecture

Contemporary civil law expert Professor Rolf Hermann Stürner from law school of the University of Freiburg gave a lecture on the Development of Property Law Principle and the Compiling of China’s Civil Code to students on Xueyuanlu Campus on the evening of 26 April, 2019.

The lecture was co-organized by the EU Law Institute and Comparative Law Institute of the College of Comparative Law as the sixth of the serial celebrating lectures on the 10th Anniversary of the College.

Prof. Zhang Tong, the Director of the EU Law Institute & EU Jeanne Monnet Professor, moderated the lecture. Prof. Wang Hongliang from the Tsinghua University School of Law provided the interpretation. Commentators included the Director of the Roman Law Institute of CUPL Prof. Fei Anling, the Director of Legal Education and Assessment Institute of CUPL Prof. Tian Shiyong, Prof. Zhang Shuanggen from Peking University Law School, Associate Dean of Beijing Normal University Law School A/Prof. Yuan Zhijie and A/Prof. Luo Yao from the College.

During the three-hour speech, Prof. Stürner analyzed the development outline of China’s property law principle in detail through the comparison on different  legislation on property law principle in major countries. He concluded the demerits and merits of several regulations in China’s current Property Law, and then provided the audiences with unique insights and recommendation in compiling China’s civil code.

Prof. Wang Hongliang’s proper interpretation also extended the lecture’s excellence.

The lecture aroused a heated discussion between the professors and students during the Q&A section.
