Rector of University of Cologne & President of DAAD Joybrato Mukherjee visits the college

Rector of the University of Cologne & President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Prof. Joybrato Mukherjee and Head of the China Office of DAAD Mr. Ole Engelhardt visited the College on the afternoon of 20 Sept, 2024.



Dean of the Institute of Sino-German Law Prof. Xie Libin met with the dignitaries on Haidian Campus. Associate Dean of the Institute (German side) Mr. Balduin Benesch, teaching faculty members Prof. Liu Wenjian, A/Prof. Chi Ying and Ms. Britta Rudel and student representatives attended the exchange meeting.



Xie Libin extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He pointed out that the exchange and cooperation between the University and many universities in Germany has been supported and helped by the DAAD for a long time. He said, with the strong sponsorship of the DAAD, more and more Chinese and German students have broadened their horizons and enriched their experience through the Exchange Programmes at the Institute of Sino-German Law, and has made remarkable achievements in academic research. For Chinese students, the Sino-German exchange programmes provide a valuable opportunity to study German law. According to Xie, through the experience of the Sino-German exchange programmes, many students have more choices in career development, and many graduates also choose to continue their doctoral studies in Germany. The support of the DAAD has not only promoted the exchanges and mutual learning of Chinese and German jurisprudence, but also enhanced the friendship between the two countries. In this regard, Xie expressed his sincere gratitude to the DAAD for its important contribution, and believed that the friendly cooperation between the two sides will continue to deepen and renew.



Joybrato Mukherjee spoke highly of the continuous progress of the Exchange Programmes at the Institute of Sino-German Law and its remarkable achievements. Mukherjee said, some of the programmes funded by the DAAD are lighthouse-like and significant and the Institute of Sino-German Law is one of them, which is also part of the China-Germany Dialogue on the Rule of Law. He said that the Institute is not only the cradle of Sino-German comparative law research talents, but also an important platform for the exchange of law researchers between the two countries. Mukherjee expressed that the DAAD would continue to fully support and promote cooperation between the China University of Political Science and Law and German institutions on this programme.



Representatives of the Chinese students from the Institute who have just finished their studies in Germany and those who are going to study in Germany also participated in the exchange.
