Sino-Italian Law Forum Serial Lectures:Aldo Petrucci gives a lecture

Professor Aldo Petrucci, Vice President of the University of Pisa & full professor in Roman Law at the Department of Law of the University, gave a lecture on the Society as a Model of Organising Economic Activities from Roman Law to Modern Experience online to the students at the invitation of the College of Comparative Law on the evening of 27 Nov, 2023.



The lecture was held online and on-site, and it was moderated by the Director of the Academic Committee of the College Prof. Fei Anling on Xueyuanlu Campus. A/Prof. Luo Guannan from the Institute of Legal History, A/Prof. Geng Jianing from the School of Criminal Justice and Dr. Guo Yihao from the School of Law of CUPL were the commentators.


At the beginning, Fei made an opening speech and expressed her gratitude to Petrucci for giving the lecture and to the guests for their active participation.



Based on the typologies of the Roman partnership, Petrucci provided an in-depth analysis of how the system was adapted to the needs of society. He emphasised the flexibility of Roman partnership system in organisational structure, operation mode, capital contribution and profit distribution. He pointed out that the modern commercial law system could try to find a balance between the conflict between autonomy and restriction by analysing the experience of Roman law.


During the discussion, Luo shared the development of the ancient Chinese concept of partnership. Guo and Petrucci discussed the issue of "legal person" status in Roman law. Geng talked about the preventive organisation and management model in the field of modern Italian unit crime, and pointed out that it should have the flexibility similar to the Roman partnership system.


At the end of the lecture, Fei once again thanked Petrucci, the guests and all the teachers and students present.
