Professor Zhang Xiuhua from the School of Marxism of CUPL was invited to give a lecture on the Internal Relationship between Thought, Time and Reality: from the Overall Research Method of the Report of the 19th National Congress of the CPC to the teaching faculty of the College on Xueyuanlu Campus on the afternoon of 13 Nov, 2019.

This lecture was also the second lecture in the series of Training Session for Postgraduate Supervisors. It was hosted by Director of the Institute of Comparative Law of the College Prof. Bo Yanna.

During the nearly two-hour lecture, Zhang Xiuhua mainly talked about the Rescue and Expression of the Totality Method, the New Reality, the Totality Relation between the New Era and the New Thought and the Mutual Implication and Interpretation of the Thought and the Time and the Reality under the Totality.

First of all, Zhang Xiuhua elaborated what totality dialectics is and how totality dialectics is saved and rescued, and revealed the application of totality dialectics through the analysis of the report of the 19th National Congress and General Secretary Xi's historical thinking, dialectical thinking, systematic thinking, strategic thinking and innovative thinking.

Then, Zhang Xiuhua explained the definition of "new reality", "new era" and "new thought". By comparing the reality of Hegel and Marxism, it is revealed that the new reality, referred to in the 19th party congress report, is that socialism with Chinese characteristics as a whole has made a substantial leap. The new era is characterized by the multidimensional, comprehensive, spatiotemporal and holistic nature under the orientation of the overall perspective. The new ideology is the specific overall ideology, which is abstracted from the theoretical system of "concreteness-abstraction-concreteness", and systematically answers the fundamental question of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

Finally, Zhang Xiuhua expressed that the new reality, the new era and the new thought all belong to the category of totality through the analysis and interpretation of the thought, the time and the reality under the totality, thus showing the relation of mutual implication and mutual interpretation among the three, and deeply interpreting the important connotation of the new reality, the new era and the new thought.

At the end of the lecture, the teachers introduced their own understanding of the relevant content of philosophy and raised questions, and exchanged their views with Zhang Xiuhua.
