The College held the Pre-Departure Briefing for Students Studying Abroad of 2025 to strengthen education and management for outbound students and help ensure safe study experiences overseas on Haidian Campus on the afternoon of 27 June.

Attendees included Chair of the College Council Gu Yongqiang, Deputy Chair Tian Zhaojun, Deputy Dean of the College Xie Libin, Section Chief of the Programme Division at CUPL’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Zhang Yuchen and Student Tutor of the College Yang Mingquan. The session provided targeted training for students preparing to study abroad.

On behalf of the College, Gu Yongqiang congratulated the students on earning this valuable opportunity through selection. He explained that the main purpose of the briefing was to ensure that students are well prepared to calmly handle unexpected situations and challenges during their time overseas. He encouraged students to focus on advancing their academic studies and personal capabilities, approach cultural differences with openness and inclusiveness, and strive to become foreign-related legal professionals with broad international horizons and solid expertise.

Xie Libin offered three key reminders. First, he emphasised that academic study is the primary task of studying abroad and should be approached with diligence and seriousness. Second, he encouraged students to fully experience local life and culture, expand their perspectives, and improve practical life skills. Third, he urged heightened awareness of safety—travel happily, return safely.

Zhang Yuchen delivered a safety-focused training session covering five areas: overseas safety knowledge, pre-departure preparations, tips for international exchange, common issues and learning resources, with special emphasis on foreign-related policies and study-abroad safety.

Jin Chu, a year 2021 entering master’s student of the College, shared his own experience studying at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, discussing school selection processes, APS application procedures and pre-departure preparations.

Yang Mingquan provided detailed guidance on academic record management, dormitory policies, academic & career planning and mental health support, to ensure a smooth transition between students’ domestic and overseas academic lives.

In his closing remarks, Tian Zhaojun shared three hopes: that students study hard with clear goals, maintain safety and self-assurance, and prioritise safety while keeping in touch. He sincerely wished all students success in their studies and a safe return.

According to the College, about 24 current students and 4 graduates from the College of Comparative Law are expected to study abroad in 2025, in countries including Germany, France, the US, Japan, Singapore and Italy, with 7 students receiving support from the China Scholarship Council. The College would continue to rigorously implement the University’s key foreign-related rule of law initiatives, strengthen the cultivation of foreign-related legal talent, and reinforce full-process, comprehensive education and management for students studying abroad, aiming to produce highly qualified, practically capable, multidisciplinary professionals who contribute to CUPL’s foreign-related legal work and to the nation’s legal civilisation.
