Dr. JIANG Fengan

Fengan JIANG (Richard) is Assistant Professor of WTO and EU law at the College of Comparative Law of the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). He provides LL.B. course: An Introduction to EU Law as well as LL.M. courses: Comparative Studies of Chinese and EU Trade Law, and Comparative Studies of Chinese and EU Data Protection Law. Moreover, he is also a guest researcher in the Europa Institute of Leiden University and provides LL.M. students with lectures.


He received his legal education in China (East China University of Political Science and Law, LL.B. 2009) and the Netherlands (Leiden University, LL.M. 2014; Ph.D. 2020). His Ph.D. thesis concerning trade and sustainable development was published by Routledge in July 2021. During his Ph.D. studies, he provided lectures on Regulating EU External Trade for LL.M. students and coached the Leiden University team in the ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition. Moreover, he also interned with the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Development Research Center of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. Prior to his PhD research and Master’s degree study in Leiden, he practiced law in Shanghai.
