Fengan JIANG (Richard) has been the Research Fellow at the Centre for China-European/EU Legal Studies of the CUPL since March 2021 and Assistant Professor of WTO and EU law at the College of Comparative Law of the CUPL.
He provides LL.B. course: An Introduction to EU Law, and EU Data Protection Law and Practice; LL.M. courses: Comparative Studies of Chinese and EU Trade Law, and Comparative Studies of Chinese and EU Data Protection Law. Moreover, he is also a guest researcher in the Europa Institute of Leiden University and provides LL.M. students with lectures.
He received his legal education in China (East China University of Political Science and Law, LL.B. 2009) and the Netherlands (Leiden University, LL.M. 2014; Ph.D. 2020). His Ph.D. thesis concerning trade and sustainable development was published by Routledge in July 2021. During his Ph.D. studies, he provided lectures on Regulating EU External Trade for LL.M. students and coached the Leiden University team in the ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition.
Moreover, he also interned with the WTO, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Development Research Center of the State Council of the PRC. Prior to his PhD research and Master's degree study in Leiden, he practiced law in Shanghai.

1.2023-present Hosting the EU scientific research project: ‘Erasmus + Jean Monnet European Module' project, with the theme of "Trustworthy Data Flows", aiming to help China participate in cross-border data flows Formulate international rules and explore joining regional institutional arrangements for the cross-border flow of international data.
2.2021-2023 Participated in China University of Political Science and Law's 'Erasmus + Jean Monnet Chair' programme (chaired by Professor Zhang Tong), with the theme of Legal challenges and legislative responses in the European digitalization process: Inspiration from China. Responsible for the comparative study of personal data protection legislation between the EU and China.
3.2020-2023 Participate in EU scientific research projects: Leiden University 'Erasmus + Jean Monnet Centers of Excellence' programme, the theme is comparative research on EU regional integration. Responsible for comparative research on the integration of the European Union and the Asia-Pacific region.
