The Institute of Comparative Law

The Institute of Comparative Law is the first research institute specializing in comparative law established in China ’s high education sector. It originated from the Office of Comparative Law of the Graduate School of China University of Political Science and Law first established in 1986 with the approval of the Ministry of Justice as the Institute of Foreign Law of China University of Political Science and Law, and renamed as the Institute of Comparative Law in October 1988.

 

The Institute of Comparative Law devotes itself to systematic and comprehensive research on social and legal systems of foreign countries and the regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with the research fields covering comparative law, civil and commercial law, Roman law, constitutional law, administrative law, history of law, procedural law and systematic laws. In addition to active domestic academic exchanges, the Institute has been engaged in extensive international academic exchanges and established long-term cooperation with the legal scholarship field in Italy , Japan, the UK, the US, Germany, France, Russia, Australia, and the regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well. Moreover, the Institute has hosted many international and regional academic conferences, and accomplished significant achievements.

 

The Institute has 10 academic staff members, offering subjects including comparative law, comparative private law, comparative constitutional and administrative law, comparative adjective law, Roman law, company law, international law, law of state responsibility, international environmental law, foreign civil law, French administrative law and legal English. Up to date the staff of the Institute has published over 50 monographs and more than 200 journal articles, compiled or edited over 10 books, and undertaken over 30 research projects. Many of the journal articles have been published abroad in English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish, and won awards on provincial, ministerial, or international level.
