At invitation of the College of Comparative Law, Professor Shawn Marie Boyne from School of Law of Indiana University visited the College and gave a lecture to the students on The Future of Death Penalty in the United States on Xueyuanlu Campus on the evening of 13 Oct, 2014. The lecture was moderated by Associate Dean of the College Prof. Lin Lin.
In this talk, Prof. Boyne examined the reasons why the use of the death penalty continues to decline in the U.S. and analyzed the question: what has changed in the U.S. in the past twenty years that has led to this decline?
Later during the Q&A section, the students and Prof. Boyne had a lively discussion in terms of the comparison of China and America's death penalty system and the issues existing in the U.S. judicial system. Prof. Boyne's lecture was extremely successful that the room was filled to capacity.
Before the lecture, Dean of the College Prof. Gao Xiang and Associate Dean Prof. Lin met with Prof. Boyne. The two parties exchanged their opinions on the cooperation possibilities in the field of student exchange, teaching faculty exchange and summer school program, and they reached an intention.
