Mr. Kurt Beck, President of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) & Former President of the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands & Former Governer of Rheinland-Pfalz, gave a lecture on the Unrest World Order—Germany’s Responsibility in European Upheaval to the students on Xueyuanlu Campus on the afternoon of 6 Sept, 2017.
The lecture was co-organized by the College of Comparative Law, Law School of CUPL and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Vice-President of CUPL Prof. Li Shuzhong provided comments and Dean of the Law School Prof. Jiao Hongchang moderated the lecture. Deputy Director of Teaching Department A/Prof. Wang Qiang, Associate Dean of the College of Comparative Law & Dean of the Sino-German Institute of Law Prof. Xie Libin and Deputy Dean of the Institute Dr. Clemens Richter attended the lecture.
Beck introduced the changes of world pattern after the World War II, and the EU and Germany shouldered their responsibilities when facing challenges like environment and populism. He emphasized the importance of the cooperation and coordination between each member state of the EU. He also suggested it is necessary to maintain EU’s regional safety and financial order, enhancing the public trust in governing the Union.
