Prof. John C. Reitz, Honourary President of American Society of Comparative Law as well as Edward Carmody Professor of Law & Director of Graduate Programs and Visiting Scholars of the University of Iowa, gave a lecture on the Political Economy of Judicial Review of Administrative Action to students on Xueyuanlu Campus on the evening of 2 June, 2017.
Dean of the College Prof. Gao Xiang moderated the lecture. Associate Dean of the College Prof. Xie Libin and Director of the China-American Law Institute of the College Prof. Liu Chengwei attended the lecture.
Prof. Reitz firstly introduced two basic types of judicial review, and then analyzed the case for general deferential rationality review, the puzzle of civil law resistance to deferential rationality review despite the spread of proportionality, and the reasons for resistance to deferential rationality review in the civil law tradition.
