The College held the seventh noon salon (formerly Luncheon with Professor) on Haidian Campus on the afternoon of 23 Dec, 2024. Dean of the College Prof. Xie Zhiyong was invited to be the guest speaker. Focusing on the Corresponding Changes in Law Study and Research in the Age of Digital Civilisation, Xie brought wonderful sharing to the students with his profound academic background and cutting-edge academic perspective.

The salon focused on the characteristics of digital civilisation, the digital challenges faced by traditional law and how to deal with these new challenges. Xie pointed out that in the process of Chinese-style modernisation, all kinds of relations of production closely related to economic activities need to be “digitally empowered” to meet the needs of the times. At the same time, he pointed out that there are deviations in the legal academia in the direction of digital research. He emphasised that the “digital empowerment” of legal science should focus on the regulation of digital use behavior and strive to build and perfect the rule system for such behavior.

In addition, Xie also explored in depth the development path of the digitisation transformation and upgrading of the legal discipline, and emphasised that although the study of digital Law has gone through a period of development, only when the research scenario is concretised, can it embody its real value and significance. This view provided students present with a new topic and research ideas, stimulating their strong academic interest.

Taking this opportunity, Xie Zhiyong carried out a research talk with the students, on the theme ‘a nation strengthened by education, what does CUPL do’. Students raised questions about the confusion encountered in their study and life. With a high sense of responsibility and affinity, Dean Xie listened to the questions patiently and answered them one by one, providing the students with practical solutions.
