The College held a lecture on the French Family Justice Oorganisation, Friendly Procedure and Evidentiary Identification in French Civil Field on the afternoon of 26 Nov, 2024. Founding Partner of the Chauveau Mulon & Associés & President of the Institut du Droit de la Famille et du Patrimoine Ms. Élodie Mulon, President of the l’association Femmes de Justice & President of the Colmar Court of Justice Ms. Ombeline Mahuzier and Founding Partner of the SCP Cicuto Germain Grouselle & Commissioner for Justice Mr. Robert Cicuto were the guest speakers.
The lecture was moderated by Prof. Wang Wei from School of Law. Dr. Song Bijun from the School of Foreign Studies was the Chinese-French interpreter. A/Prof. Hu Sibo from the Procedural Law Institute and Dr. Wu Liangjian from the School of Law were the commentators. This lecture was part of the College’s Sino-French Law Exchange Serial Activities.
Dean of the College Prof. Xie Zhiyong and the Regional Liaison Magistrate for Southeast Asia and the Far East of the French Embassy Mr. Jean-François Redonnet presented opening remarks at the beginning of the lecture. Xie reviewed the history of cooperation between the College and French Embassy, including the French civil law foundation, and stressed that the two sides should continue to deepen their cooperation in the development of foreign-related legal talents. Redonnet recalled the strong cooperation between China and France, and said that the French Embassy attached great importance to the exchange, which was included in the 14th China-France Law and Justice Exchange Week.
In the lecture, Mulon introduced the structure and functions of the French family justice organisation and explained the French legal system on issues such as divorce, child support and domestic violence. Mahuzier talked about the practice and development of friendly dispute resolution in French family justice organisations. Centering on the theme of evidentiary identification, Cicuto discussed how to evaluate and judge evidence under the framework of law.
At the end of the lecture, Wang, Wu, Hu, Ms. Gao Han, a lawyer with Beijing Celue Law Firm, and Wang Xiangzhe, a year 2024 entering postgraduate student focusing on French Law from the college, raised questions on the impact of friendly mediation procedures on the initiative of the judiciary in defending rights and the French family justice system's regulations in the field of cross-border marriage and inheritance. The speakers had in-depth exchanges with the teachers and students present on the issues raised.
