The Sichuan–South Asia & Southeast Asia International Commercial Law Dialogue and Exchange Conference was held in Chengdu in a hybrid format on 10 Sept. Professor Gao Xiang, Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Commercial Law and Practice, Executive Chair of the ICC China National Committee on Commercial Law and Practice, Arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and professor at the College, delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Dispute Resolution under International Trade Rules: The Application of INCOTERMS® 2020 as an Example’.

This dialogue served as one of the Chengdu sessions of Arbitration Week China 2025. It was guided by CIETAC, co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sichuan Sub-Council (CCPIT Sichuan) and the Secretariat of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organisation (ICDPASO), and jointly organised by the CIETAC Sichuan Sub-Commission and the CCPIT Sichuan Mediation Centre.

The event attracted 150 participants, including representatives of business associations from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India and Pakistan, foreign-related legal institutions, provincial enterprises and experts from universities. The dialogue was chaired by Ms. Zhang Wei, Director of the Commercial Legal Affairs Department of CCPIT Sichuan. Attendees included Wang Zhimin, Vice-Chair and First-Class Inspector of CCPIT Sichuan, Jia Shen, Secretary-General of ICDPASO, and Raul Lambino, President of the Philippine–China Understanding Association, who all delivered addresses.

Mr, Wang Chengjie, Vice-Chair and Secretary-General of CIETAC, also delivered a speech via video link. He emphasised that as exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and South and Southeast Asian business communities deepen, the demand for professional legal services continues to rise. CIETAC, he noted, would persist in providing high-quality arbitration services to meet the increasingly diverse needs of parties and to safeguard international economic and trade investment activities for both Chinese and foreign enterprises.
