The Institute of Comparative Law

The Institute of Comparative Law is the first research institute specialising in comparative law established in China's high education sector. It originated from the Teaching and Research Section of Comparative Law of the Graduate School of China University of Political Science and Law. It was established as the Institute of Foreign Law of China University of Political Science and Law with the approval of the Ministry of Justice in 1986, and was renamed as the Institute of Comparative Law in October 1988.


The Institute of Comparative Law devotes itself to systematic and comprehensive research on social and legal systems of various countries and regions. In addition to active domestic academic exchanges, the Institute has been engaged in extensive international academic exchanges and established long-term scientific research cooperation with the legal scholarship field in Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, Germany, France, Russia, Australia, and the regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well. Moreover, the Institute has hosted many international and regional academic conferences, and accomplished significant achievements. Up to date the staff of the Institute has made rich academic achievements. Many of the journal articles have been published abroad in English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish, and won awards on provincial, ministerial or international level.


The Institute has 6 academic staff members, offering modules including Jurisprudence, Civil Law, Comparative Law, Comparative Private Law, Comparative Legal Philosophy, Legal Sociology and so on. Since 2015, the institute has successively enrolled graduate students in the fields of Italian Law, Russian law, Spanish-speaking countries' law, Japanese law, French-speaking countries' law and other national laws, achieving remarkable results in the cultivation of professionals in regional and national law.
